First Tournament 5/26/12

• Depart Friday, May 25 at 4 PM from AVIS (address on Travel page)
• Return Saturday, May 26 immediately following completion of competition
• Athletes should plan to purchase their own dinner on Friday and a late lunch on Saturday.  Breakfast is provided at the hotel Saturday morning. We try to eat at Panera, Chipotle or something similar.
  
• Uniform jerseys will be distributed Friday night at the hotel.

**NOTE to parents & athletes: The first tournament is a great opportunity to acquaint our newer athletes and reacquaint returning athletes with the experience of travel, hotel stays, the level of competition, etc. This weekend is a great low pressure introduction to the whole experience.  We look to evaluate where our athletes are starting from so we can determine the best course of training and effectively measure improvement over the course of an athlete’s time within our program.  This isn’t simply about 4-5 weeks but rather an athlete’s multi-year career within the VVC program. Our best success stories have been athletes that invested their efforts for 2-3 seasons.

Also, the information on our Travel page is important as the AVIS location is our drop off and pick up on every trip. And the Hampton Inn is where we will stay on trips to southern California.

Our first trip is this week and we will depart on Friday afternoon from AVIS.

The biggest challenge for us in the summer season is the large load of administrative work that must happen in a very, VERY short window.  We must have the following for EVERY athlete, including returning players:

• Color photocopy of Government issued ID with a photo (for teams going to JO’s only)
• Junior Registration 2012 (Forms page of our website)
• Medical Release 2012 (Forms page of our website)
• Player Agreement for your respective team QS / National or Regional (Boys page of our website or found below)
  • VVC Player Agreement – QS National Teams Summer 2012
  • VVC Player Agreement – Regional Teams Summer 2012

We must order uniforms, make arrangements for logistics, etc.  We appreciate your immediate attention.  Please bring these items to Tryout #2 (Thursday) or Tryout #3 (Saturday).  Our ability to be organized is directly related to receiving the paperwork and dues ASAP.

State Championship

Tonight the NIAA State Championship match will be played at 6 PM at Chaparral HS.  Kudos to Coach Jay Renneker for hosting a wonderful tournament.  The Coronado Cougars will play the Silverado Skyhawks.  As neither program has ever won the state title, tonight’s winner will claim their school’s first Boys Volleyball State Championship.  Best wishes to both programs and the coaches!  We are fortunate to have amazing VVC athletes on both teams.

State Tournament

The NIAA Boys Volleyball State Tournament is the culmination of another season. We should be so thankful that Nevada is one of only a handful of states in our country that sponsors boys volleyball in high schools.

The State Semi-finals begin tonight and will be hosted at Chaparral High School.

5 PM ~ The first match features Mitchell Tingey and the Palo Verde Panthers playing Curtis Hadland and the Silverado Skyhawks. 

7 PM ~ The second match features Brandon Dau and the Coronado Cougars playing Tanner Maxwell and the Shadow Ridge Mustangs.

Also, we have included the link to all the volleyball stories focused on Boys Volleyball in our local media outlet.  It is easy to have a variety of reactions to the coverage, writing, volleyball expertise, etc.  We are trying to just remain grateful that we have any attention and publicity for our wonderful VVC athletes and coaches.

VVC Tryouts

Finally, this week means the end of the high school season and the beginning of the 2012 SUMMER CLUB season.  We had our first tryout last Saturday. Athletes from new high schools attended! And, it is always so impressive and amazing to see the athletes so quickly rise to meet the expectations of Vegas Volleyball. We are fortunate to have the best athletes from Las Vegas in our program.
