Who we are & Why we are different

We are so extraordinarily proud of the program we have built with the wonderful athletes and families that have joined the Vegas Volleyball Club family. There are many things that distinguish our program from any other in Las Vegas. One of the accomplishments close to the top of that list centers on the number of amazing young men that have been able to realize their goals of higher education and volleyball.

We are happy to announce our first athlete committing to a college program for the 2011/2012 season!

Bob Houser has verbally committed to Grand Canyon University. Bob is a graduate of Bishop Gorman High School (2011) and enrolled at Cal State University, Northridge in the fall of 2011. He participated in the Northridge program during the fall preseason. He decided to leave the school and return to Las Vegas following the end of his first term.

Bob participated in an “official visit” earlier this month and last week verbally committed to attend Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. Bob will receive an athletic scholarship to participate on the Men’s Volleyball team that competes in the MIVA (NCAA Div I/II conference). Head Coach Jeremy Price was very excited to learn of Bob’s commitment to GCU and eager for Bob to add firepower to the ‘Lopes offense.

Today, Bob Houser shared this: “VVC helped make me the player and person I am today. VVC is a great family that gave me another opportunity to play…I’m extremely excited to play for GCU and Coach Price.“

Bob, we are proud of you and all the young men that are a part of the Vegas Volleyball family!

VVC alumni leading their teams in MPSF

VVC alumni Chris Austin (UCI) and Drew Staker (Northridge) were in action last night. Each leading his team in MPSF conference match play. The Anteaters and Austin prevailed in straight sets.

2012 Las Vegas Classic

This weekend Las Vegas plays host to one of the largest girls’ club tournaments in the nation. The Las Vegas Convention Center, Cashman Fieldhouse and a few high schools will have 100′s of teams competing in the 2012 SCVA Las Vegas Classic. This a great way to see high level volleyball with teams from across the country competing.

And, you can find Coach Rios at the LVCC in Hall N on Court 72 at 9 am, 11 am & 1 pm on Saturday.

We are so fortunate for such a young club program to have as many athletes continuing to play in college as we do. We added a few more Alumni profiles to our page.

If you know of any former VVC athletes continuing their playing careers, please share that news with Coach Rios. We would love to include everyone!

Further, we want to acknowledge and highlight all those athletes that are participating on their collegiate club teams (like all our guys on the NAU Men’s Volleyball Club team). So please send us a link, profile, pictures and results.

A reminder of the USA Volleyball High Performance tryouts this Sunday at ASC in Anahein, CA. Walk-up registrants are welcomed. This is a great way to play with and in front of the best in our country. And if you attended a previous tryout, a second tryout can only help. I hope to see you there…

We are pleased to share that we have two VVC athletes embarking on recruiting trips today! Bob Houser (2011) and Tanner Maxwell (2012) will participate in an “official visit” to Grand Canyon University (Phoenix, AZ). Grand Canyon’s Men’s Volleyball program participates in the NCAA DI/II Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) conference.

We wish them the best of luck as they visit with the coaches and team, participate in a practice, attend courses and watch a home match.

First, Drew Staker…he was on our gold medal winning team and competed in the NCAA Men’s Volleyball Final Four in his freshman season at Northridge.

Summer Season 2012

As we begin to organize our summer season, it is important that ALL RETURNING players contact Coach Rios to commit for the summer as soon as possible.

Here is some planning information for the Summer Season for our Quiksilver teams –>Summer 2012 Season

All returning players should send their $100 deposit so we can solidify the rosters, enter the 2012 Junior Olympic National Championships in Dallas, TX and plan accordingly.
